Poor Bear

Bear went off his feed the past couple of days and seemed to be a bit listless. I got concerned when he stopped eating and made an appointment with the vet to have him looked at. He had a suspicious bulge on his hip that looked like an infection but when I examined it, it felt hard like a calcium deposit or something. He didn't seem to mind my poking around but it wasn't normal and it was new.

At the vets, it only took a single body mass x-ray to confirm the worst of diagnoses. Bear has cancer. Not only the hip, but all throughout his body, lungs, bones and intestines. He is such a stoic animal. He never complained or moped, even when he went off his feed. We made arraignments for him to leave us with as little pain as possible. Even if our hearts were breaking, we wanted him to know he was loved as he left. My daughter, who was his owner for over two years, stayed with him till it was over. It's sad, but I won't let any animal suffer needlessly on my watch.

Goodbye Bear, we'll miss you.
